Over the past decades, having gone through many different obstacles as well as experiencing happiness and successes. One looks back and realizes the importance of the memories we have collected over time. Our families (some of them), our children, friends (in some cases they are our chosen families) and of course our work friends. Maintaining connections with our work friends I found took a little more effort now not seeing them everyday but so very important. As I enter this new chapter in life I find myself reflecting on my past work.
After working for many years in our jobs, we will be replacing some of our work life expectations with new expectations. For much of my life, I worked Monday to Friday. Even though most of the time I liked my job I looked forward to Fridays and just loved the long weekend holidays. Friday was my favorite day and usually my most exhausted! The thought of not having to get up and be at work for 2 days was amazing. Now not doing that anymore I find that I still get up somewhat early and still truly enjoy the weekends. Keeping somewhat of a regular schedule I find comforting. I do allow myself to get up later. I usually try to make my appointments in the morning so that I have the afternoons to do what I would like.
Making My Own Schedule
I no longer have a schedule dictating my days other than my own expectations. This new chapter will and does take some adjustment to find your “footing”. Some can do it faster than others. How each of us achieves our new normal is very dependent on what feels right for each person. I have a friend who has started taking weaving classes, bought herself a loom and has taken this new passion to all sorts of new heights. She is showing some of her work at weaving guilds and has bought another loom to try something new altogether. Someone else is babysitting their grandchildren on a part time basis and enjoying gardening and catching up on reading.
Reflecting On My Past Work
As I reflect on my past work I realize that’s the beauty of all of this is that there is no right or wrong way. Listen to your gut!
